What’s the Best Social Media Platform for Your Business in 2025?

Updated: Jul 16

When I first started Motari Media, I assumed that being “visible” meant showing up everywhere. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, LinkedIn - I had tabs open for all of them, but no real traction anywhere. It felt like I was doing a lot but reaching no one. If you’ve ever felt that pressure to “be everywhere,” I want to offer a mindset shift. You don’t need to be everywhere. You need to be where it matters.

The right platform for your business depends on three things:

  1. Where your audience already spends their time

  2. The kind of content you’re good at creating

  3. What you can realistically do consistently

Let’s break it down by platform, so you can make a strategic choice and stop spreading yourself thin.

If your business has strong visual elements (products, events, services you can capture behind-the-scenes), Instagram is still a powerful social media channel and tool. It works best for personal brands and businesses that rely on storytelling and community to grow.

It’s ideal if you...

  • Sell handmade or physical products (like cakes, skincare, clothing)

  • Run a service-based business where your face is part of your brand

  • Want to build trust by showing process, personality, and value

Tip: Reels and Stories work just as hard as static posts. Don’t be afraid to show your workspace, your “why,” or even what didn’t work this week. It builds connection.

If you’re a service provider, coach, consultant, or B2B business, LinkedIn might actually be the best place to build credibility and attract the right clients. I’ve booked clients just by sharing what I’m working on and breaking down lessons from my own business journey.

It’s ideal if you...

  • Offer professional services or work with other businesses

  • Want to be seen as a thought leader in your industry

  • Are targeting professionals or decision-makers

Tip: Mix insights with storytelling. Talk about what you’re learning, what you’ve helped others do, or even what you’re testing out right now.

TikTok is still the most powerful platform for organic reach, especially if you’re willing to test different formats and be consistent. You don’t have to dance or be super polished. You just have to be real.

It’s ideal if you...

  • Can commit to 3-5 posts a week

  • Are comfortable showing up on video (even casually)

  • Want to educate, inspire, or entertain through short-form content

Tip: Treat your first 10 seconds like a headline. “Let me show you how I helped my client go from 200 views to 10k,” is more effective than “Hey guys!”

A lot of people think Facebook is dead, but that’s not always true. If your audience is 40+, or you work locally, Facebook can still be a great space to build community and drive engagement, especially through Groups and Events.

It’s ideal if you...

  • Work with caregivers, older adults, or local families

  • Run a community-focused brand

  • Want to use Events or a Facebook Page as a hub

Tip: Create or join Facebook Groups where your audience is already active. Offer genuine value, not just promos.

Pinterest isn't just for wedding inspo and recipe, it is a visual search engine. A single pin can bring traffic to your site for months or even years .

It’s ideal if you...

  • Sell visually appealing products or digital content (e.g planners, candles, cakes)

  • Write blog posts, recipes, or tutorials

  • Want to drive traffic directly to your website, not just build social presence

Tip: Use Canva (free to sign up) to create vertical pins for your blog posts and product pages. Add keywords in your Pin title and description so they show up in search.

Youtube is one of the largest search engines after Google and that alone is a strategy. If you are good at storytelling, teaching, or showing how things work, Youtube can help you build serious authority and visibility over time.

It’s ideal if you...

  • Offer tutorials, how-tos, or long form storytelling

  • Have a service or product that needs explaining or demo-ing

  • Want evergreen content that keeps working for you

Tip: If long-form feels intimidating, start with Youtube shorts. These actually grow your channel quicker than you can imagine and have great visibility. Most of my followers have come from shorts.

Many larger organizations have been silently migrating to Bluesky seeking a calmer, less chaotic alternative to X (formerly known as Twitter). It's not the right platform for everyone yet, but it's smart to keep an eye on it.

It’s ideal if you...

  • Work in tech, writing, or cultural commentary

  • Are an early adopter who likes experimenting

  • Want to connect with a thoughtful, niche community

Tip: Don't build your entire strategy around Bluesky, but secure your handle and start listening (if you have the extra time). You never know when a shift will happen, I mean look what happened with TikTok.

This TikTok-owned platform is like if pinterest, instagram, and a blog had a baby. It's visual, well-designed, the aesthetics are great, and surprisingly community-oriented. If your brand leans into lifestyle, wellness, food, fashion or personal storytelling, this might be a smart space to claim..

It’s ideal if you...

  • Create content like any described above

  • Enjoy writing longer captions and telling your story through visuals

Tip: Carousel-style posts perform great here and if anything, you can get inspired by the creative ways others are blogging with clean visuals and good storytelling styles.

Another alternative to Twitter, Threads is Instagram's text-first sibling and feels more like a group chat than a polished platform. It is a space where you can show up less filtered, share your thoughts, respond to others, and build relationships through conversations.

It’s ideal if you...

  • Already have an engaged instagram following because your followers carry over and instagram shows your posts on it's platform

  • Have a strong brand voice or love sharing bite-sized insights

  • Want to test ideas, talk about your business journey, or build community through conversation

Tip: Treat threads like twitter. Share quick tips or BTS thoughts, it does not need to be curated to be effective .

Let's be real- twitter is not what it used to be but the platform still works, for some. If your audience is in tech, media, or news, it can still be very valuable, especially for commentary, live conversation, and visibility during live events.

It’s ideal if you...

  • Work in tech, journalism, policy, or the startup space

  • Want to share hot takes, threads, or engage in real-time conversations

  • Have capacity to post and engage multiple times a day

Tip: If you are still active on Twitter, spend a lot more time engaging with others posts and threads but don't build your entire content strategy on this platform except you are seeing real traction .

So... what should you choose?

Ask yourself:

  • Where do my people already hang out?

  • What type of content feels easiest for me to create?

  • Can I commit to posting at least once a week there?

It’s better to be consistent on one platform than burnt out across four. I tell my clients to start with one, grow into the others. You’ll build stronger relationships and get better results that way.

If you could have only one social media channel, which would it be?

  • Facebook

  • Instagram

  • Youtube

  • TikTok
